A: We take our last tan 5 minutes before posted closing time.

Please note, that if you are a first time tanning client, we ask that you arrive 30 minutes prior to closing. If you are a first time Spa client, we ask that you arrive an hour before closing.

A: Yes!

1. You should shave and exfoliate the day before you plan to spray.

2. The day of your sunless spray you should not use any lotion, deodorants, perfumes, moisturizers, or wear makeup as it can block the absorption of the solution in your skin.

3. After you spray you should have loose fitting clothing to change into and wear home. It does take 8-10 hours for full development of the solution, during this time, you should avoid doing any activities that would cause the solution to run and stop developing.  This includes sweating or activities involving water. We recommend doing nothing after your spray and to just have a relaxing day. If you know you have a lot of errands to do, we recommend doing those first and spraying last. It is very important that your outside activities do not mess with the development of the spray tan.

Q: Do I need to do anything to prepare for a sunless tan?

Q: How long do I need to wait before I take a shower?

A: This question has a couple different answers.

If you are choosing to do a spray tan in our Pura Booth, full development takes anywhere from 8-10 hours. If you feel the color is getting too dark, you can absolutely RINSE sooner and stop the development. However, your first shower with soap that is spray tan safe should not be until taken until 24 hours after you have been sprayed.

For regular UV tanning, unless you are using a bronzing lotion, you can shower immediately after tanning. The UV has already penetrated the skin and started the tanning process. Taking a shower will not stop the process, it may cool the skin and take away some of the redness, which would normally fade regardless of when you shower. It will often take several days to develop the tan regardless if you choose to shower immediately or not.

If you are using a bronzing lotion with DHA that takes time to develop we would recommend waiting at least two (2) to four (4) hours before showering.

Q: Why should I use a tanning lotion?

A: There are several reasons that a lotion should be used.  The most important being skincare.

Lotions help moisturize and protect the skin.  The lotions we carry have a variety of uses and skin care benefits that range from helping clear sunspots to protecting tattoos to anti-aging benefits.   If you have a question or are looking for a lotion in particular, any of our consultants can help find the lotion to best fit your needs.

Another reason to use lotion is to develop a quicker tan. We carry three different types of lotions. Accelerators or intensifiers, bronzers, and tingle lotions.  Each lotion will help develop a better tan, but with different ways to go about it.

Accelerators or intensifiers do not have any added coloring.  They  promote color development through hydration and skin conditioning properties.

Bronzers have the same hydrating properties as accelerators and intensifiers but with added color.  Bronzers can be natural or DHA.  Lotions that utilize only natural bronzers give immediate color to help establish a base tan. Bronzers that use DHA enhance color immediately  from natural bronzers as well as high quality self tanning agents found in DHA for delayed development.

Tingle lotions are recommended for experienced tanners only.  Tingle lotions come in either bronzers or intensifiers. These lotions work by stimulating blood flow and creating a reddening sensation in the skin.  These lotions are great for helping to breakthrough plateaus that come from your body getting used to the same exposure rates.

A: It's not recommended to use a body lotion on the face.

The face has more sensitive skin than the rest of the body. The fragrances in the body lotion can irritate the skin of the face and can cause breakouts or rashes. For this reason, we carry face lotions that are formulated for the sensitive facial skin, are non-comedogenic, and are high in skin care to help protect the delicate facial skin while helping to achieve the best tanning results.

Q: Can I use my body tanning lotion on my face?

A: There are several reasons for this. The skin on the face is harder to tan than areas like the stomach. This is because it is basically skin with not much fat under it.

Other reasons for the face not being as tan as the rest of the body include washing and exfoliating the face, wearing sunscreen or make up with an SPF, or turning off the facials. When you wash your face constantly and exfoliate it, it removes skin, which also removes the tan.  Most makeup foundations or moisturizers contain an SPF, which will block the UV rays from tanning the face. If you want to tan the face, we recommend removing any makeup and using a tanning lotion formulated for the face.

Q: Why is my face not tanning?

A: No. Outdoor lotions and tanning oils eat at the acrylic of the tanning beds.

Using one of these will cause the acrylic to get rough, cloudy or weaken the stability of the material.  When tanning in a tanning bed with cloudy, rough, or cracked acrylics, it can block the light which lessens the quality of your tan.

In addition to the effects on the acrylic, outdoor lotions and oils do not provide the same quality of skincare or tanning benefits.
